Pillars in the Cosmic Soul
When we think of pillar-like structures in space, the first thing that comes to mind for most people is probably the famous Pillars of Creation in the Eagle Nebula (M16). Made famous by the world-renowned Hubble Space Telescope, these towering structures reveal the breathtaking beauty of a cosmic region where new stars can form from clouds of gas and dust.
However, these pillar-like structures are not found only in the Eagle Nebula. Similar formations of gas and dust can also be seen within the Soul Nebula (IC 1848). Although they may not be as widely known as the Pillars of Creation, these structures also reveal the extraordinary beauty of star-forming regions across the universe.
So, how do these pillars form? The structures found in both the Eagle Nebula and the Soul Nebula are shaped by similar natural processes.
Intense radiation and powerful stellar winds from nearby massive stars gradually erode and sculpt the surrounding clouds of gas and dust. Denser regions within these clouds are more resistant to this erosion, allowing them to survive longer than their surroundings. As a result, towering pillars, canyon-like features, and other intricate structures emerge from the surrounding material.
These pillars are more than just beautiful cosmic landscapes. Where dense gas and dust remain within them, they can also become sites where new stars may eventually form.
The Pillars of Creation in the Eagle Nebula are already a celebrated wonder of the cosmos. Yet, when we take a closer look at the pillar-like structures within the Soul Nebula, we discover a beauty and complexity that are uniquely their own.
One of the most fascinating aspects of astrophotography is its ability to reveal details invisible to the naked eye through long exposures.
A nebula that initially appears to be nothing more than a colorful cloud of gas may actually conceal towering pillars, intricate edges, and delicate textures formed by gas and dust. Just as the Eagle Nebula has its famous Pillars of Creation, the Soul Nebula has its own pillars waiting to be discovered by those who take the time to look more closely.
The universe is not filled only with wonders we already know. It also holds countless unseen beauties, waiting to be discovered in places we might otherwise overlook.
And among these hidden wonders are the Pillars in the Cosmic Soul — the pillars nestled within the heart of the Soul Nebula.
From my current home, the Eagle Nebula is simply not in a favorable direction for imaging, making it practically impossible for me to capture. I have always wanted to photograph its magnificent Pillars of Creation, but unfortunately, I have never been able to do so. That is why discovering similar pillar-like structures within the Soul Nebula felt like finding water in the middle of a desert. For me, it was a truly exciting discovery.
Normally, when I photograph a nebula, I prefer to capture its entire structure rather than focus on just one small part of it. I have never really been the kind of astrophotographer who deliberately frames only a portion of a nebula.
But this experience has changed the way I look at things. From now on, whenever I plan to photograph a new nebula, I will find myself searching for the hidden pillars of gas within it. And I will no longer hesitate to capture just a small part of its overall structure if that is where its most fascinating details lie.
Sometimes, discovering a new perspective is just as rewarding as capturing a long-awaited target.

အာကာသထဲက တိုင်ပုံစံဖွဲ့စည်းမှုတွေကို ပြောလိုက်ရင် လူအများစုရဲ့ စိတ်ထဲမှာ ပထမဆုံးပေါ်လာတာကတော့ Eagle Nebula (M16) ထဲက နာမည်ကျော် Pillars of Creation ပဲ ဖြစ်ပါလိမ့်မယ်။ ကမ္ဘာကျော် Hubble Space Telescope ရဲ့ ပုံရိပ်တွေကြောင့် လူသိများလာခဲ့တဲ့ ဒီတိုင်ကြီးတွေဟာ ဓာတ်ငွေ့နဲ့ ဖုန်မှုန့်တွေကနေ ကြယ်အသစ်တွေ ဖြစ်ပေါ်လာနိုင်တဲ့ အာကာသဒေသတစ်ခုရဲ့ အံ့မခန်းလှပမှုကို ဖော်ပြနေပါတယ်ဆိုရင်မမှားပါဘူး။
ဒါပေမဲ့ ဒီလိုတိုင်ပုံစံဖွဲ့စည်းမှုတွေကို Eagle Nebula တစ်ခုတည်းမှာပဲ တွေ့ရတာ မဟုတ်ပါဘူးခင်ဗျ။ Soul Nebula (IC 1848) ရဲ့ အတွင်းပိုင်းမှာလည်း အလားတူ တိုင်ပုံစံ ဓာတ်ငွေ့နဲ့ ဖုန်မှုန့်ဖွဲ့စည်းမှုတွေကို တွေ့မြင်နိုင်ပါတယ်။ Pillars of Creation လောက် လူသိမများပေမဲ့ ဒီဖွဲ့စည်းမှုတွေကလည်း ကြယ်တွေ မွေးဖွားရာ အာကာသဒေသတွေရဲ့ ထူးခြားတဲ့အလှတရားကို ဖော်ပြနေပါတယ်ဆိုတာက အမှန်တရားပါ။
ကဲ.....ဒါဆို တိုင်တွေဘယ်လို ဖြစ်ပေါ်လာပါသလဲ။ Eagle Nebula နဲ့ Soul Nebula ထဲက ဒီလိုဖွဲ့စည်းမှုတွေမှာ ဆင်တူတဲ့ သဘာဝဖြစ်စဉ်တွေ ပါဝင်ပါတယ်။
အနီးအနားက ကြယ်ကြီးတွေရဲ့ ပြင်းထန်တဲ့ ရောင်ခြည်နဲ့ ကြယ်လေပြင်းတွေက ပတ်ဝန်းကျင်ရှိ ဓာတ်ငွေ့နဲ့ ဖုန်မှုန့်တိမ်တွေကို တဖြည်းဖြည်း တိုက်စားပုံဖော်ကြပါတယ်။ အဲဒီ ဓာတ်ငွေ့နဲ့ဖုန်မှုန့်တိမ်တွေအထဲက သိပ်သည်းတဲ့အပိုင်းတွေကတော့ တိုက်စားမှုကို ပိုမိုခံနိုင်ရည်ရှိတဲ့အတွက် ပတ်ဝန်းကျင်ထက် ပိုမိုရှည်လျားပြီး ထင်ရှားတဲ့ တိုင်ပုံစံတွေ၊ ချိုင့်ဝှမ်းပုံစံတွေနဲ့ အခြားရှုပ်ထွေးတဲ့ ဖွဲ့စည်းမှုတွေ ကျန်ရှိလာတာပါ။ ဒီတိုင်တွေဟာ လှပတဲ့ အာကာသရှုခင်းတွေ သက်သက်မဟုတ်ပါဘူး။ အတွင်းပိုင်းမှာ သိပ်သည်းတဲ့ ဓာတ်ငွေ့နဲ့ ဖုန်မှုန့်တွေ ရှိနေပါက ကြယ်အသစ်တွေ ဖြစ်ပေါ်လာနိုင်တဲ့ နေရာတွေလည်း ဖြစ်လာနိုင်ပါတယ်။
Eagle Nebula ရဲ့ Pillars of Creation ဟာ လူသိများပြီးသား အာကာသအံ့ဖွယ်တစ်ခုပါ။ ဒါပေမဲ့ Soul Nebula ထဲက တိုင်ပုံစံဖွဲ့စည်းမှုတွေကို အနီးကပ်လေ့လာကြည့်တဲ့အခါမှာလည်း သူ့ရဲ့ကိုယ်ပိုင် အလှတရားနဲ့ ရှုပ်ထွေးနက်နဲမှုတွေကို တွေ့ရှိနိုင်ပါတယ်။ Astrophotography ရဲ့ စိတ်ဝင်စားစရာအကောင်းဆုံး အပိုင်းတစ်ခုကတော့ သာမန်မျက်စိနဲ့ မမြင်နိုင်တဲ့ အသေးစိတ်အချက်တွေကို ရှည်လျားတဲ့ exposure တွေနဲ့ ဖော်ထုတ်နိုင်ခြင်းပါပဲ။
အစပိုင်းမှာ ရောင်စုံဓာတ်ငွေ့တိမ်ကြီးတစ်ခုလိုပဲ မြင်ရတဲ့ nebula တစ်ခုအထဲမှာ တကယ်တော့ တိုင်ကြီးတွေ၊ ရှုပ်ထွေးတဲ့ အနားသတ်ပုံစံတွေ၊ ဓာတ်ငွေ့နဲ့ ဖုန်မှုန့်တို့ရဲ့ သိမ်မွေ့တဲ့ အသွင်အပြင်တွေ ပုန်းကွယ်နေနိုင်ပါတယ်။ Eagle Nebula မှာ နာမည်ကျော် Pillars of Creation ရှိသလို၊ Soul Nebula မှာလည်း ကျွန်တော်တို့ သတိထားကြည့်မိမှ မြင်တွေ့နိုင်မယ့် ကိုယ်ပိုင်တိုင်တွေ ရှိနေတာပါ။
စကြဝဠာကြီးဟာ ကျွန်တော်တို့ သိပြီးသား အံ့ဖွယ်တွေနဲ့တင် ပြည့်နှက်နေတာ မဟုတ်ပါဘူး။ မသိသေးတဲ့ အလှတရားတွေကိုလည်း နေရာတိုင်းမှာ သိမ်းဆည်းထားပါတယ်။ ဒါတွေအထဲကတစ်ခုကတော့ Pillars in the Cosmic Soul — Soul Nebula ရဲ့ ရင်ခွင်ထဲက တိုင်များပဲ ဖြစ်ပါတယ်။
Eagle Nebula ကိုတော့ လက်ရှိကျွန်တော်နေနေတယ့်အိမ်ကနေဆိုရင် သူ့ရဲ့ direction ကြောင့်ဘယ်လိုမှရိုက်ဖို့အဆင်မပြေလို့ သူ့ရဲ့ Pillars of Creation ကြီးကိုအရမ်းရိုက်ချင်နေခဲ့ပေမယ့်လည်း ရိုက်လို့မရခဲ့ဘူးလေ။ ဒါကြောင့်အခုလိုမျိုး အလားတူ pillars မျိုးကို Soul Nebula အထဲမှာရှာတွေလိုက်တာကျွန်တော့်အတွက်တော့ ရေငတ်တုန်းရေတွင်းထဲကျတာနဲ့အတူတူပေါ့ခင်ဗျာ။
ပုံမှန်ဆို Nebula တွေကိုဓာတ်ပုံရိုက်တိုင်း သူတို့ရဲ့ structure တစ်ခုလုံးကိုပဲအဓိကထားရိုက်တတ်ပြီး သူတို့ structure ရဲ့တစ်စိတ်တစ်ပိုင်းကိုရိုက်ဖို့ဘယ်တော့မှမကြိုက်တယ့် ကျွန်တော့်အတွက်လည်းနောက်ဆို Nebula အသစ်တစ်ခုရိုက်ဖို့လုပ်တိုင်း သူတို့အထဲက ဓာတ်ငွေ့တိုင် (pillars) တွေကိုလိုက်ရှာနေမိမှာဖြစ်သလို သူတို့ structure ရဲ့တစ်စိတ်တစ်ပိုင်းကိုရိုက်ယူဖို့လည်း ဘယ်တော့မှတွေဝေနေမှာမဟုတ်တော့ဘူးဆိုတာပါပဲခင်ဗျ.....
